An Amazing New Look from American Exteriors

With the arrival of springtime, homeowners are taking full advantage of the opportunity to work with American Exteriors for their home improvement projects. With over 29 years  of experience, homeowners have found working with American Exteriors an experience worth talking about.

Dear American Exteriors,

We had all new siding put on our house in the historical area of the city. The house was built in 1890. The wood was too dry to scrape and re-paint. We had lots of design and scallops on the house. We did not want to loose all the old charm to the house. American exteriors did a two color siding, grey with white trim, corners and freize board. In addition, they put scalloped siding on the front of the house to keep some of the historic charm to the home. The home looks amazing. The workmanship is very good and the work was completed in a short time with no inconvenience to us.

An Unexpected Benefit From American Exteriors

An unexpected benefit many homeowner have enjoyed from energy efficient replacement vinyl windows from American Exteriors is the ability the windows have to reduce outside noise. This is extremely beneficial to those who may work in the evening and sleep during the day or have infants who nap during the day. Although this is unexpected from the standpoint of the homeowner, American Exteriors gives thought and care into the type of products which may be best for your home.

Dear American Exteriors,

We have been very pleased with our new windows. The noise level has dropped a lot since thy have been installed. This ia a great benefit because my husband works the graveyard shift and sleeps during the day.

I am also extremely happy with how easy they are to open and clean. No more bent screens or aching back from having to fight to get them out so I can clean them. We are eager to see what kind of difference they will make in our utility bill. We have yet to receive a bill since they have been installed but I can feel a considerable difference in the amount of heat from them.

All in all we are most satisfied with the service as well as the product we have received.

Sincerely,
Jared and Shalean Moore.

American Exteriors – Gladly Recommended To Family And Friends

According to an article in the Replacement Contractor magazine, referral business can account for up to 42% of a company’s business. Those referrals come from many sources, from family, from friends, co-workers and neighbors, the acquisition of a referral is as powerful as a billboard along a busy highway – and more. Leveraging the relationship of the customer with their network provides those in the network of people whom they may know who have had the work done with the company and their experience with the company. It literally pays to ensure that each customer have an experience that exceeds their expectation.

This is the process that American Exteriors has developed in our 25+ years in the industry. American Exteriors does not rely on the traditional methods of advertising such as billboards, television commercials or news ads. American Exteriors realizes that a much more valuable resource of expanding is the customers whom we have satisfied with our product and our processes. Customers such as  Tim and Kristi Carson:

Dear American Exteriors,

We have been impressed with the quality and service of our new windows so far. The initial contact with our salesperson was friendly and there was no pressure. He gave a price quote and explained all of the advantages of replacing our windows. We had a couple of windows that really needed to be replaced as there as some wood that certainly needed to be replaced. We were promised that any bad wood would be replaced and not merely covered up.

The installation crew showed up right on schedule and did a marvelous job. All of the windows in the house were replaced in one day. The crew was courteous and cleaned up extremely well.

One of the first things we noticed was the difference in temperatures. Preciously there had been a marked difference between the basement and the main floor. This difference is now almost non-noticeable. We’ve also noticed the difference in the noise level from the outside.

We have been very pleased with the temperature difference already. With the daily temperatures above 100 degrees, this is easy to keep track of. We are anxious to see what impact these new windows have on our utility bills.

The new windows look great and really compliment the exteriors of our home. We are pleased with the product and experience so far and will gladly recommend American Exteriors to our friends and family.

Tim & Kristi Carson

American Exteriors – A Homeowner Review with Elaine

Have you considered having your windows replaced but have just not moved forward? Here is a great homeowner review from just a customer and her advice on when the best time to replace your windows is.

Testimonial:

My name is Elaine and American Exteriors did my windows. They did them in February. From the time that the representative came out to place the order to the time that they measured and installed was a very reasonable time. The young man that came out, there were two of them, to install the windows – they were very professional and to me they were quick and I have no problem with the way they installed the windows. They did it very well and I could tell the difference right away, in the drafts in the windows, it’s just not there that we had before. The ventilation in the house now in the summertime is much better. The house stays cooler and I notice that even in the short time that I had them during the winter and even now the house is warmer.
Sitting in the wintertime, you can feel more of the cold than when you are gone for 8 hours or more a day that I just decided that I needed to do that, I needed to get windows, so…
If you are in the market to buy windows, do it! Because the sooner you do it the more energy you will save whether its winter or summer on the air conditioning. It helps keep the heat out and in the winter it helps keep the heat in. Because those old windows, I had them, this house is 45 years old and I had never got windows before so it’s made a tremendous difference in the heating bill. Of course, I got a new furnace too.
When my brother came to visit, he goes, ‘oh you got new windows’! I mean, that’s the first thing he said when he walked in the door. So they could see a difference on the outlook of the front of the house. How much nicer it looked! And they were inquiring, how was it, have you had them in the winter time yet? They wanted to know how the windows were working.
We don’t get the sun in that window anyway so he isn’t freezing his butt off in the winter anymore. There was frost inside the window and it would be wet so he would touch it and now he loves that window, that’s his spot where he watches everything.

American Exteriors – Winterizing Your Windows

Improperly sealed window frames are generally the most commonly noticed aspect of a faulty air barrier as the affects are more noticeable. Such aspects may be manifested in drapes or curtains moving due to the breeze coming through gaps in your home envelope. Sealing these leaks not only contributes to utility savings but also increased comfort.

How do you know if you have leaky windows? Here are a few simple ways to determine if you have a faulty air barrierk out for in your inspections:

  • window frame for cracks in the caulking, on the top of the window sill, or commonly overlooked, under the window sill.
  • On a windy day, using an incense stick, move the device around the frame to observe if there is movement indicating air leakage, this could occur from wind blowing into the home or out of the home as well.

Here are a few DIY solutions you can take in order to seal the windows in your home. For best results, prepare the area to be caulked or weather-stripped as follows:

Caulk to plug any areas of leaky air.

First, prepare the area:
• The temperature outside should be above 20°F (-7°C).
• Before application, remove dirt, grease or oil which will interfere with adhesion using a mild dishwashing detergent and water.
• If pressure-sensitive weather stripping was previously applied, it can be removed with an adhesive remover, found in local home improvement stores
• Remove any old caulk and paint using a putty knife or large screwdriver.
• Make sure to wipe all surfaces down for best result.
• Make sure all areas are dry so moisture isn’t trapped inside.

Caulking:
• Hold the caulking gun at a consistent angle, usually 30°-45°, to force caulk into the crevasses.
• Caulk in one continuous line. Avoid stops and starts as this can cause unseemly irregularities and gaps in the caulking bead.
• Make certain that the caulk sticks to both surfaces.
• Release the trigger before pulling away to avoid applying too much caulk.
• To clean up any excessive waste use mineral spirits or water (depending on type of caulking)

Weather stripping:

Weather stripping is another easy DIY method to ensure that your home is sealed against the elements:
• Calculate how much weather stripping you will need.
• Measure the perimeter of all of the windows and doors which will need application and then add 5%-10% to account for waste. Use the old adage, measure twice – cut once.
• Using the weather stripping obtained from a local home improvement store, apply the weather stripping between the sash and the frame of the window.
• Do not remove all of the backing at once; slowly peel off the backing as you adhere it to the surface. The material should compress when the window is closed.

These are two very easy DIY simple solutions to effectively stop your energy dollars from flying out the window. By utilizing these and other techniques, you will make your home more comfortable as you seal the leaks in your home.
